I, Ms. Jeannie founded Unlikely Charming, intending to make gardening education accessible at the school levels.
As the saying goes, “We all start somewhere,” and eventually, it led me in unique directions. From being in a full-service event planning, to a Montessori mentor for over 13 years, to learning homesteading. I soon decided to make an environmentally-conscious decision to manage my ecological footprints by not just being conscious, but also by making others aware. And what better way to do this than to educate about our environment through the art of Nature Learning.
I’m an unpredictable individual, in a good way of course! I roam around my day mending, making, creating, and designing unconventional things. I love things! I love junk! I love nature! I’ve been described as a divergent, benevolent, and even an oddball. These adjectives provide an insight of who I am.
I aim to share all my fun, crazy and creative ideas. My classes will focus on gardening, food production, honey bees, creative projects, and most importantly protecting our environment.
After receiving my Master of Science in Accountancy, and buzzing impatiently in my cubicle, I realized I was not a happy bee. My children at the time were entering school, so I decided to work at a school to teach basic accounting principles to 6th, 7th, and 8th graders. This opportunity opened my eyes to education. I was blessed to teach in the Montessori platform for 11 years. I taught everything from practical skills, to agriculture, to Excel, to knitting, to dance, to gardening, and much more.
My curiosity of the outdoors sparked my intense interest in gardening. I have volunteered over 500 hours with my county encouraging communities to garden, enjoy the outdoors, and starting a community garden with a team of women. Learning and growing food became a passion.
For this reason, let's explore the outdoors!
Let's dig into soil.
Let's break apart composting.
Let's learn about the honey bee.
Let's explore growing food.
Let's get our hands dirty!
Buzz on over and become a Nature Steward....
As an educator with Montessori background, I wanted to provide young children & young adults with inclusive education that went beyond the role of learning and made them environmentally conscious.
Gardens are not just engaging learning spaces for all, which are also interdisciplinary classrooms that welcome every type of learner, regardless of age or ability. They level the playing field for students with physical disabilities, learning and behavior challenges, and other needs by offering them an opportunity to contribute to the process of growing food from seed to harvest.
Thereby I strive to give children and young adults scope for an enormous amount of creativity, experiences, and opportunities.
With my focus on Nature Learning, Community and Education, what sets my garden apart is how I provide unique ways to learn gardening and hone skills to help children for the rest of their lives.
Having stressed the need to educate children on agriculture and gardening, Unlikely Charming offers this education whether in classrooms, virtually, on-site, or face-to-face. You can choose your learning style.
Given my focus on homesteading, I love to promote some of my best-loved products. In addition, sell fresh garden harvest from the garden, seeds, and any remarkably unique by-products a garden can produce. My goals is to educate on eco-conscious products for the garden and our lives.
Summer has arrived! Time to plan and generate new classes for the 2022-2023 school year. The "Class" tab will be available at the end of July.
